Recent scientific studies demonstrate that inflammation is the contributing source for many disease states including: Lyme disease, diabetes, autism, periodontal disease, cardiovascular disease, osteoarthritis and neurological diseases such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and multiple sclerosis. Diet and lifestyle changes can reduce inflammation and help patients heal faster.

This unique course is specifically designed to provide information on the physiology of inflammation and its causes and shed light on what specific foods, supplements, and meditation practices that will reduce inflammation and promote healing.


PURPOSE: Learn methods to reduce inflammation and heal faster with emphasis on diet, supplements, and mindfulness.


WHO SHOULD ATTEND:  

Registered nurses, registered dietitians, and other healthcare professionals interested in learning about diet, stress and inflammation.

Dietitians/Nutritionists: Level 2


OBJECTIVES:

  • Discuss the scientific evidence linking diet, stress and inflammation.
  • Describe the physiology of the inflammation cascade.
  • Identify foods that inflame and the causes.
  • Discuss diet and supplements that reduce inflammation.
  • Experience mindfulness meditation practice.

    All participants will receive instructional materials and a continental breakfast. After attending the seminar in its entirety and handing in the evaluation survey, those seeking continuing education will earn:
    * Registered Nurses: 7.0 contact hours
    * Registered Dietitians: 7.0 CPEUs

Susan Taylor, PhD, is director of educational programs and founder of the Center for Meditation Science, Inc. An accomplished nutritional biochemist and meditation specialist with more than 25 years of experience, and a pioneer in the field of mind/body medicine, Taylor continues to transform our understanding of health.

By understanding the link between psychological function and physical reality and how the mind-body matrix plays a role in our health and healing mechanisms, her approach integrates the best of western medicine with natural healing traditions.

Dr. Taylor is the author and producer of the Healing Power of Meditation and The Vital Energy audio programs, and the author of The Healing Power of Meditation national seminar and the Meditation Specialist™ Competency Training for health care professionals.

She holds a PhD in Nutritional Biochemistry at Case Western Reserve Medical School and a MS in Human Nutrition with Columbia Medical School. Dr. Taylor's research has appeared in the scientific journals Analytical Biochemistry and The American Journal of Physiology. DIRECTIONS

Route 66 from Washington D.C.:

Take Route 66 West.  Follow signs to Route 267, Dulles Toll Road.  Exit at Route 123 South, Chain Bridge Road. After passing under I-495, stay in the far right lane. Exit right onto Tysons Boulevard. Turn right onto Galleria Drive that becomes Westpark Drive. At the first traffic light turn right onto Jones Branch Drive. 7950 Jones Branch Drive will be approximately ½ mile on the right.

From the Capital Beltway (I-495):
Take exit 46A (Tysons Corner/Route 123/Chain Bridge Road South). Stay in the right lane and take the first right exit onto Tysons Boulevard.  Turn right onto Galleria Drive that becomes Westpark Drive.  Turn right at the first traffic light onto Jones Branch Drive. 7950 Jones Branch Drive will be approximately ½ mile on the right.

George Washington Parkway North from Washington D.C.:
Take the Virginia exit from the George Washington Parkway onto I-495 South (the Capital Beltway). Continue on I-495 South for about 2 miles. Take Exit 46A (Tysons Corner/Route 123/Chain Bridge Road South exit). Stay in the far right lanes. Exit at first right onto Tysons Boulevard. Turn right onto Galleria Drive that becomes Westpark Drive. Turn right at the first traffic light onto Jones Branch Drive. 7950 will be about ½ mile on the right.

Dulles (Limited ) Access Road:
Exit onto the right ramp Route 7, Leesburg Pike/Tysons Corner. Immediately get in the far left lane. Turn left onto Spring Hill Road, then right onto Jones Branch Drive. 7950 Jones Branch Drive will be about ½ mile on left.
 
Route 267, The
Dulles Toll Road:
Exit Route 267, the Dulles Toll Road, from the far right lane onto Spring Hill Road. Toll will be $.25. When leaving Toll Booth get into left lane at the traffic light. Exit onto one of the two left lanes of Spring Hill Road and turn left at the first traffic light onto Jones Branch Drive. 7950 will be approximately ½ mile on the left. 
There are three entrances to the Gannett Building from Jones Branch Drive: The Guard House, South Employee Entrance, and Service/Employee Entrance. Guests should enter through the Service/Employee Entrance.

 

PARKING 

Coming east on Jones Branch Drive, the parking entrance is the third on the right, once you see the Gannett Building.Coming west on Jones Branch Drive, the parking entrance is the first on the left. Signs are posted for all events indicating Event/Visitor Parking.

Once you arrive at the garage, indicate that you are with Gannett Healthcare Group’s seminar titled Career Alternative for Nurses and the Security Guard on duty will direct you to parking locations.    

You’ll be instructed to park on Level P2.This is the top of the Garage and is not connected to the building, but it is a quick walk from this level of the garage to the building. Once you enter the building, a set of stairs takes you down to the Lobby.  

The Security Desk is located on the right across from our Convenience Store, The Daily Item. You MUST check in with Security, show ID and you will receive a name badge.Security of Signage will direct you to the seminar.

Cancellation and Refund Policy for Seminars:
Phone cancellations must be confirmed in writing. Cancellations received four weeks prior to the seminar receive a full refund of the registration fee. Cancellations received after four weeks and up to seven days prior to the seminar are assessed a $50 processing fee. Cancellations received seven days prior to the seminar or “no shows” are nonrefundable. Registration fees are transferable to an upcoming seminar within the same calendar year (expires December 31 each year) or to another participant. In the event that a seminar is cancelled, a full refund will be issued.
